[Editorial note: we were recently contacted by Wonderbra about this story because of some incorrect statements we made. For an update, we posted the full Katie Green story with a more accurate tale portrayal of Wonderbra.]
You may not know who Katie Green is. Well, you are not alone. But Sony thought it would be clever to have her pose in her unmentionables for for their new press release showing how thin their new flat-screen TV is. The irony? Not too long ago she was fired by Wonderbra because she wasn't thin enough and refused to slim down. Of course, putting her in the TV pictures frankly makes it hard to see the TV, but I suppose that's one way of selling a £3000 ($4300) TV. You'd think just pointing out that it's the world's thinnest would be enough.
To be fair to Sony, Katie looks good being "overweight," and it is odd that Wonderbra saw fit to hire none other than Dita von Teese to be their model, who is curvy, and, at 37, isn't your typical model either. They were so enthralled with Dita, that they had her do this provocative video emphasizing her curves and had her represent a whole line of new bras, but fired Katie after stressing her out about her weight. Katie's modeling agency called her regularly to check and make sure she was slimming down, and put her on a strict diet (no carbs after 4pm, etc). All this after Katie had been chosen to be the new face of Wonderbra in an open casting call. What's up with that, guys? Well, at least we can thank Sony for reminding us of that debacle. I still don't care about the overpriced TV, though.
