A performance by Eva and Her Virgins is as evocative for the theatrical antics and energy of its band members as it is for the luster of its dark electronic pop sound. Playful, gritty, histrionic, and sexy, Eva and Her Virgins is a band that you want to keep your eye on.
I was excited to chat with front woman Emily Powers about the band, where we also discuss time travel, superpowers, and using Beethoven’s body as a flotation device.
Chicktellectual.com: Using only 3 words max, how would you describe your music?
Emily Powers: I sent out a questionnaire to Facebook and this is how people described us: "seductive rock evolution" "loss for words" "not for kids" and "words cannot describe"
C.Com: Who writes your songs?
EP: Jabbath does the initial sound at times, or I have a melody with words and we go from there... He mixes and programs everything as well as develops the sound, I come in and throw some words on the grill with melody and he helps with harmonies and stuff -- which I suck at. So I guess he is the music, and I am the lyricist. I know we will be doing more of his lyrics in the future as well and I hope to get some music in my background.
C.Com: You have a time traveling machine and can go watch any musician or band perform. Who would you go see?
EP: It’s a tough call for The Doors, James Brown & Michael Jackson -- I swear I always thought I'd get to meet him.
C.Com: If you were a superhero, who would you be?
EP: I would someday like to create my own superhero: "Powers" -- hahah -- and my only power would be that every time I said "powers" people would turn into whatever I was thinking in my head at the moment. But in the real super world of hero's -- definitely the Iron Giant. He's big, indestructible, eats metal, and does good because he wants too. He just has the best most innocent metal heart. The only poster I own is The Iron Giant. Plus, it came out on my birthday -- can't fight fate!

C.Com: You are on a sinking ship and can only save one of the following -- Beethoven, John Lennon and Trent Reznor. Who would you save?
EP: I would use Beethoven's body as a floatation device so me and Trent could get to know each other.
C.Com: What's the craziest thing you have ever seen on tour?
EP: Craziest on tour- well we have only gone to Boston with Linda Perry so far -- I'd like to say we were the craziest thing that little place saw but you never know -- I've definitely seen some sex-drugs & rock'n'roll when we played with the Dirty pearls at Santos. We are going to Cali soon -- I'll report back.
C.Com: What's next for Eva and Her Virgins? What direction would you like the band to take?
EP: I wanna go as far as my body & mind can go -- and take the band with me. I'm searching a lot so it's hard to say musically or/and lyrically where we will go, but I know I love Jabbath, Holly, Mike and our new drummer Pete is growing on me a lot, and that's all I need to go beyond the stars.
C.Com: Any last thoughts?
EP: Last thoughts? I hope that my last thoughts are many decades away and very bright!!!
You can follow Eva and Her Virgins on Facebook, Reverbnation, and iTunes, but they much prefer if you catch them live!
